The fact that some people here are familiar with the stories of others suggests that this world isn't necessarily the actual one. Each of our worlds was fictional with respect to the others. I have yet to meet anyone I recognize, but I take it that in some of your worlds, I was fictional. That doesn't prove that my world was any more fictional than any other. Moreover, nothing I've seen so far indicates that this world has any special ontological status; its only special feature would appear to be the presence of the portal. From the point of view of my world, this world could also be said to be fictional.
If we accept - as many of us seem to - that we have been transported to a world other than our own, it still doesn't follow that this world must be the real one. The worlds may not be organized hierarchically.
I expect that others here may already have formed similar conclusions, and if so, I apologize for restating already accepted theories. If anyone has any further evidence for or against what I've said, I'd be delighted to hear it.
