I don't plan on making the database public. While I myself don't promote discrimination, I know others may not feel the same. I understand the dangers of a list like this, better than you may think, but I still feel the deterrent such a list provides to criminal activity outweighs the risk of someone accessing and abusing the information.
Consider that in most of our own worlds, or at least the one I came from, the police force and government had far more to go on than they do here. Fingerprints, dental records, police records, anything and everything that the United States of America and other countries would subtly monitor for their citizens protection... all that is lost, here, for those who came through the portal. All we have is some old books and discs that reveal possibly accurate information on some citizens, and is not enough to convict anyone, and people's unconfirmed answers to a few interview questions from when they first entered. I'm sorry that this change has to be so overt, but it's a system that should have been in place from the beginning.
What's planned and what happens aren't exactly ever similar. I come from a world where the government decided to try and make lists like this. Then they started herding those of us who were different into camps. Those that resisted, were killed. I grew up completely stripped of my own free will thanks to mind control drugs.
Excuse me for not really looking forward to a repeat.
That's true, and I come from a world where there was a list that a private company intended to use for that same purpose. When I found out I could fly, I was so convinced if I went public about my powers they would round us up and put us all in labs. I promise I will not let that happen here, and even if the promises of a politician don't mean that much to you, at least give me a chance to prove to you that I'm not heading us all towards some kind of dictatorship.
