I figured since Dean's doing all the cooking, that I should do the shopping. I saw a shopping list posted here, and it reminded me that our refrigerator's a little empty. I thought I'd get some eggs and some vegetables. Naminé mentioned cookies, and I thought that I hadn't had those in a long time.

Lots of people have been showing up asking the same questions; but I guess that's what happens when you keep pulling people through worlds and into a new one. I've been to a lot of places, but none like this. You think that they'd have pulled enough people to fill up this dome, but they keep telling people to breed and keep pulling people from different places without caring what they were doing. It's sorta selfish if you ask me, who says that their world's more important than anyone else's?

I only got a small break before my next class, but at least I'll remember to go shopping after school now. We need eggs, bread, Coke, and some of those frozen dinners.

To be fair, Lyra, I doubt there's any risk that they'll significantly depopulate any other world. Many worlds, like mine, suffer from overpopulation: too many people, not enough resources.

Not that I think this is really a practical solution to either problem. If the government of Babylon is unfair to anyone, however, it is individuals, not worlds. Though perhaps that's what you meant.

I certainly don't mean to suggest that I think it's right. But I do understand wanting to protect one's own world, or one's own family and friends.

If your world were dying, wouldn't you try to save it, if you could?

I'm sorry, I didn't realize.

Maybe they didn't read your book (see your movie? watch your show?). I've been informed that not many people saw mine.

But I will certainly keep it in mind from now on, Lyra.

I certainly agree with you there.
